Who is VITUS?

VITUS - from the Latin for life-giving - is a family-run, Australian and vegan-owned business, and the whole range is plant based and wrapped in recyclable packaging. It is the most consistently vegan vitamin range we carry: not a line within a brand, but the entire brand.

Most of it is powders rather than tablets, which is unusual for vitamins and minerals: Magnesium Powder and Capsules, Vitamin C Powder, Calcium Powder, Vegan Multi Powder, Vegan B12 Powder, Vegan Omega Powder, Digestive Powder, Spirulina Powder and Tablets, Clean Greens, Iron + C, Immune-D and Vegan Protein.

Vegan Omega Powder and Vegan B12 are the two worth knowing about - both nutrients a plant-based diet genuinely has to plan for, and both hard to find in a form that suits one.

Frequently asked questions

Why are most of these powders rather than tablets?

Powders need no binders, fillers or capsule shell, which is the point for a brand built on short ingredient lists - and gelatin capsules are not vegan anyway. They also let you take a partial dose. The trade-off is that you have to mix them, and some taste of themselves. Magnesium is available in capsules if that matters.

Which nutrients does a vegan diet actually need to plan for?

B12 is the non-negotiable one - it is not reliably available from plants at all. Omega-3 as DHA and EPA, iron, calcium, iodine and vitamin D are the others worth thinking about. VITUS covers B12, omega, iron and calcium specifically, which is why the range looks the way it does. A blood test beats guessing - worth asking your GP.

Is plant calcium as good as dairy or limestone calcium?

Calcium Powder is from a plant source, which is the reason to choose it if you avoid animal products. On absorption the evidence depends as much on the vitamin D and K you are getting alongside it as on the calcium form. Compare it in our Calcium range.

Is the packaging actually recyclable?

That is the brand's stated commitment - 100% recyclable packaging - and it is part of why the range is powders in tubs rather than blister-packed tablets. Check your local council's rules for what they accept, since that varies more than the packaging does.
